I've just driven past the Boston shop and seen the signs in the window. What is happening in Boston - or not as the case seems to be. We find a good shop, have a good service and then always manage to lose it. Now I'll have to learn to navigate my way round Sleaford!! I could shop online but that doesn't help socially. I really miss the knitting group and will miss Alex and Angela too.

Hi Everyone,

I'm searching for free patterns for licqourice allsorts. I have seen them on the net but stupidly have forgotton where. Anyone got any ideas? I need them for making key rings for a local charity building a school in The Gambia.

Any help would much appreciated.

I love knitting socks. When I've finished this pair for my DH in horrible colours I'm going to make myself another pair (I will try and post a photo of my pink ones to the gallery). My first pair was some baby ones which got me hooked. I just hate the fact you've got to knit two!!

I also made a pair of giant socks that I then felted down into slippers which was good fun and were very quick to knit.

This wasn't a yarn disaster, but I made a cardigan for my daughter last year which was really quick and easy to knit up in Sirdar denim. It was lovely and I was really proud of it until Sophie tried it on and I discovered one sleeve was about 4 inches longer than the other one. It hung around in my knitting basket haunting me until yesterday when I decided as I was never going to get round to doing anything about it it was going in the bin. So its gone. I may try again, and I have learnt ...

I am writing this as a warning to those using Debbie Bliss yarns. I firmly believe that on certain ranges (including Donegal Tweed, Rialto & Cashmerino DK) the yardage quoted either far exceeds what is actually wound onto the ball, or her patterns are so far off the mark when quoting amounts needed.

The reason I say this, as I am yet again in the process of tracking down more Debbie Bliss yarn in a particular dye lot, for a customer who brought exactly what was recommended on the pattern. ...

Hi everybody my name is Karen. I am a mum of two teenagers and work for two major charities - by day as a project worker in supported housing for adults with learning disabilities, and by night as a support worker for rough sleepers in a night shelter. In my spare time!!! I knit as much as possible - usually when I should be doing stuff like housework . I have been knitting for 40 years and try to learn new techniques whenever possible.

I have knitted various items this past 18 months, started with those easy scarves made from wendy cosmic wool and have nade various other scarves. Made a lacy style stole for my mother, a Shetland lace 2ply scarf, am at moment making a jumper with a lacy piece and a rib part. I subscribed to the art of knitting - so get 4 booklets to add to my collection every month of various kinds of patterns.

I am currently making a short jacket by Bergere de France, but after many tension squares discovered it works to an Aran weight (as I didn't want to use the recommended yarn). It is coming out lovely the only thing that is slowing me down is me not reading the pattern correctly. I must of pulled the front top bit down 3 times, only due to my haste, I must like it though because I haven't minded to much in pulling it down.

I have several WIPS at the moment - a Sublime cardigan I started well over a year ago which only needs the second sleeve finishing and then the button bands, but I just seem to have a mental block about doing it. I pick it up and spend a few hours on it thinking how easy it will be to finish but can't actually get round to it. It was meant to fit my 9 year old but it looks like the 7 year old will be getting it.

Started knitting this in september got the back done & half of the front haven't got the momento at the minute to finish it. I may have to start another project so i have two on the go. I've found Noro kureyon felts really well. I made myself a pair of slippers from a pattern on the Knitty.com website and they're great. When they stretch through wearing I just chuck them into the washing machine to shrink them again.

I've made a bag from it as well which I keep trying to pluck up the courage to felt but am worried the strap will shrink too much as it wasn't knitted with the intention of felting. I never use the bag, the children use it, so I'm guessing it wouldnt be ...

decreasing in a jumper

Help!

I am a fairly new knitter.

At present I am knitting a cable jumper for a friend but have problems understanding how to go about knitting the decreases in the pattern and have had conflicting answers so far. The instructions are as follows:-

Dec1 st at each end of the 9th row and every following 7th row.

The cable pattern is done over 16 rows.

My dilemma is:

1. Do I decrease counting 7 rows after the 9th row (16th 7th 14th row of cable pattern) and so forth where ...

I am very proud of these, not because I knitted them but I finished them. I did it in Wendy Fusion on a 7.5mm needle, using the Sirdar Hug Pattern.

Anyone who knows me knows i always have about 5 projects on the go so its always an achievement to get one finished and exciting to show it off.

So i thought id show this Matinee Coat which ive just knitted for my niece thats due January 6th its a pattern book by Debbie Bliss Bbay Cashmerino. instead of picking up stitches and knitting the trim around the bottom, i crocheted a picot edging after learning how to crochet at my local wool shop, it was so much quicker and made a nice change ...

My local knitting shop is the best in town, it's very nice as the owners now you by name and your not just someone going in to buy wool or any other crafty things. They always make you feel welcome and always have a smile to greet you with. If you have got a problem or don't understand any part with your pattern you can just pop in and they will help you. I have even learnt how to crochet there with lessons. Thank you Angela and Alex for a great service you give.

My name is Angela and the setter upper of this forum.

I started knitting when I was 8, my dear lovely Auntie taught me and I would make dolls clothes. I progressed onto cable and fairisle when it was all the rage.

I am a busy mum of 2 Sam & Liberty. Sam is 10yrs and informs me that I am not to knit for him, but as Lib is only 4 she still loves the warmth and feel of a lovely handknit. So while she will wear them I am going to keep knitting!
